Unique voice

Spring is coming in these parts which brings with it the songs of returning birds, my favourite early spring song being the robins song at dusk. It's haunting and sweet and full of promise. If I sit with them for a while I find that each song is unique, though they sound similar. This reminds me of some recent wisdom I received from a Jeff koons master class.

For those who don't know Jeff Koons, he is arguably the most monetarily successful artist on the planet. His wealth presents a bias of mine towards wealth and authenticity being incompatible. I don't like admitting to bias but they certainly exist in me. So I don't have a lot of faith that a wealthy person, much less an artist, could impart pieces of wisdom. Once again, I am wrong in this assumption. This is great. I like my biases to be blown up. Needless to say then, I approach Mr Koons information with caution. What he said touched me deeply enough to bring tears. It was about voice, about unique qualities of voice, and about approaching creativity with the idea that no one can say what you say. Searching for that voice is lifelong and worthwhile. Not because it will make you money but because it's part of the reason you're here. To proclaim to the universe that you made it in spite of all the universal improbability of your existence. You're here!!

Holy fuck!!!!!

Copy, mimic, learn, grow, fail, succeed, be miserable, be happy, sink into mundanity, explore the fantastic and find that voice. Because we're here and someone or something out there is waiting to hear that voice, the one that's haunting, sweet, and full of promise.
